About
the Cottonwood
The Seedless
Cottonwood tree grows very rapidly and is widely used in
the Great Plains for shelterbelts and windbreaks that are
multiple rowed for height and quick protection. It is not
recommended for residential plantings. The leaves are
triangular in shape, leathery, coarsely-toothed with a
flattened leaf stem. The Sioux land cottonwood has good
resistance to leaf rust. These trees are the seedless
variety. The leaves make a unique rustling sound when
moved by a breeze.
